The Philosophy:
I believe in the innate creativity within each of us; every person is capable of finding and developing their own artistic sensibilities. Wherever they go from here, each student will carry the ability to find and create beauty and be familiar with the experience of personal satisfaction.

BADM exhibit:
The show is in the Art studios at the Bay Area Discovery Museum (www.badm.org) from May 30-September 7, 2008.

The Place:
The Timothy Murphy School is a certified not-for-profit special education school for boys (K-12), whose academic and behavioral needs cannot be met in a regular school setting. It is situated on the historic and picturesque St. Vincent’s School for Boy’s campus in San Rafael, CA,.

The Kids:
The artwork in this exhibit comes from the high school boys in the photography and art program at the Timothy Murphy School. In accordance with school protocol, the identity of each student has been kept confidential. This exhibit features selections of images taken from a larger body of work created from January-May, 2008.

The Work:
Learning to use the camera as mode of exploration, students are asked to “see” the world around them in new ways. Assignments lead them to focus on the details in nature and architecture, as well, as the big picture, including landscapes. By learning to edit and critique their own work, they uncover and embrace their unique artistic perception. With positive instructor feedback, their craft is improved and self-esteem is enhanced.
